Michael Maggio / Scorpion Woodworks

There is something about the look and feel of the grain of wood that has fascinated me since I was a young man.  My first foray into any type of woodworking was the restoration of a mahogany dining room table and mahogany chairs with burled wood in the upper center of the back. This led to an antique drop leaf side table, a small chest and bedside tables. Work and life with twin boys left little time for me to enjoy my hobby so I let it go for many years. The boys grew needing less of my time and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit leaving free time to turn my passion into something real.

My journey began with a long maple bench for my patio, then a beech table for my den. My shed was my storage area for tools and raw wood inventory and the driveway was my workshop. The basement, which was my office/storage area/small family gym, became the space for finishing work. Our living room became a finished product warehouse with tables and benches everywhere. As I worked through the year in the heat of summer and the cold of winter honing my craft, I knew I needed a “real” workshop. This past spring a close friend said he had some empty space in a building in Newtown Square, PA that was perfect for my needs. How right he was! I now have a room for cutting, planing and sanding, and one for final finishing that also serves as an office and showroom.

As my journey continues, I will continue to create one of a kind “art for everyday living” using a varied assortment of wood and creative bases. I welcome all to call me for an appointment and visit the showroom to see and touch the wood that has fueled my passion.

I want to thank my wife for supporting me through this journey, my twin sons for believing in my creativity and my friends & family for that extra bit of encouragement that really means so much.
